This week marks the one-year anniversary of the opening of my etsy shop! The beginning of the blog followed soon after, so I'll just celebrate them together. I would have liked to do a big week-long celebration with all kinds of exciting posts and giveaways, but it sneaked up on me and I really don't have anything planned.
So looking back, how had the year been?
The blog is much more than I ever thought it would be. And by that, I partly mean it sucks up so much more time than I'd ever imagined! But I really enjoy it. I love looking back through my first posts. I wrote about funny things that my daughter did, including pictures. What a great way to preserve those memories! Here are a few of my favorite posts from the beginning:
My Very First Post (ok, not my favorite, but amusing to see the awkwardness of the first post!)
Silence Means Nothing Good (aka the Nair incident)
Homemade Bagels (the ugliest baked good you'll ever see)
And the etsy shop?
Meh. Truthfully, I'm disappointed in my sales. In part, I think that can be blamed on my insatiable need for creative experimentation. See, when I first started the shop, I only intended to make flower hair clips. I had seen sellers on etsy making only hair clips with thousands of sales. My clips were a bit more detailed and unique (I thought) and so I thought I'd have no trouble reaching the same stats. But once I made a few clips, I got bored and started experimenting with jewelry and cozies. That took so much more time and effort, and maybe led to my varying work "schedule" and slow productivity. If I could only force myself to turn out a certain number of hair clips per day and not worry about any other product, would my shop be more successful?
I've often considered doing just that- Give up the cozies and the jewelry and all the other dozens of product ideas I have. But there are so many ideas, so many directions in which to go! I'm just disappointed that after a year in business, I'm more confused than settled into a plan.
Blah blah blah. On with the giveaway!
"Get on with it!!"
So in celebration of my one year anniversary and many thanks to your support yada yada yada,
"Yes, get on with it!!!"
Ok, I'm giving away a set of three flower hair clips.
These are the good ones, made of 100% merino wool felt. The winner may pick whichever colors she likes. (Or he, if that's how it's gonna be.)
To enter, just leave a comment with your email address by Saturday, June 12.
Pretty simple, huh?
And to add a little fun -This one's only for the nerds!- Leave a separate comment with your favorite scene from the movie pictured above.
No copying, you English bed-wetting types.
"And no singing!"
There's a little hint for ya.

Chin up my dear! Never squelch that need to create bigger & better things! I love the cozies & think variety is the spice of life :)
Not a clue what that movie is??
YAY for blogiversaries!! Have a happy one! I've been blogging for almost 3 years now, and I LOVE going back and re-reading my old posts every now and again. Fun.
Also, YAY giveaway!! Pick me! Choose me! Love me!
elegantsnobbery@hotmail.com <- my info.
Also, I think that you are too much of a creative type to worry about making nothing but hair clips. That is a good thing. Just imagine how different your life would be if you didn't have the fun of designing a new piece and doing an amazing job of it. It might be more time consuming... but worth it, no?
Hooray! I adore your etsy store and your blog!

I love your stuff (even if I haven't bought anything...yet)! Having your own shop is a big step, and at least you've taken it. Maybe, if you do so many clips, you could do a cozy, or whatever, etc? That way, the store would be stocked, but you wouldn't get too bored. *shrugs* I guess that's not a big help, huh? LOL
moonshowr@gmail.com
Oh, and....It's just a flesh wound!
Yay! Happy Anniversary! I know what you mean about feeling confused about what to make for Etsy. It's a tough gig, but your stuff is GOLDEN, so keep it up. <3
